Receipts and your accountant
Your own categories and payment methods
Adding categories such as Farm, and ways of paying such as Revolut, to the lists on every receipt.
The standard categories follow the headings on the self employment tax pages. If you have costs your accountant keeps apart, such as a farm, add a category of your own.
- Click Settings in the side menu.
- Click Receipts in the list down the side.
- Type the name of the category. Put each one on its own line.
- Click Save categories.
- Your categories appear in the Category list on every receipt, just above Personal, not a business cost.
- No VAT or other tax is claimed back on them. They still count as a cost.
- Each one has its own group in the accountant pack, for your accountant to place.
- Only your business sees them.
TipNot sure whether a cost belongs in its own category? Ask your accountant how they want it recorded. Taking a client out is already a standard category, Client entertainment, with no VAT or other tax claimed back.
Your own payment methods
Paid with on a receipt lists the usual cards and ways of paying. To add another, such as Revolut or Venmo:
- Click Settings in the side menu.
- Click Receipts in the list down the side.
- Type the name. Put each one on its own line.
- Click Save payment methods.
They appear in Paid with on every receipt, just above Cash or personal, and in the accountant pack.
TipPaying with Apple Pay or Google Pay? Choose the card it used. The four digits on the receipt may not match the card itself.
